Music

Music is taught in each year group as a stand-alone subject but also used to enhance other areas of the curriculum. We use Charanga as a teaching tool to provide the basis of our music lessons.

We have a weekly whole school singing assembly, where singing is practised and used to celebrate the different occasions within the year. Sturton has been awarded the Gold Sing–Up award in recognition of the variety of singing that takes place in our school.

All children have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument with whole class lessons delivered by the Music Service while at Sturton school. There is also a Recorder and Belle Plates group for children in KS2. We also offer keyboard, guitar and drumming lessons for any children wishing to learn to play an instrument.

Sturton has a strong KS2 choir who attend many events throughout the year, the highlight of these being Young Voices. KS1 also have a choir, who are encouraged to practise and perform.

All children are invited to showcase their musical talent at our annual ‘Music Spectacular’ concert, where choirs, singers and musicians are celebrated in an evening of music and fun.
