Pupil Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Sturton‑by‑Stow Primary School, we place a strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing, recognising that children learn best when they feel safe, supported and valued. We are committed to nurturing the emotional wellbeing of every child and promoting a positive, inclusive school environment.
How We Support Wellbeing
Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
We have access to support from the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), who work alongside schools to provide early intervention and advice for children experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties. This support helps us ensure children and families receive the right help at the right time.
Student Wellbeing Champions
Our Student Wellbeing Champions play an important role in promoting positive mental health across the school. They help to create a culture where pupils feel able to talk about their feelings, support one another and understand how to look after their own wellbeing.
PSHE – Jigsaw Programme
We teach Personal, Social, Health and Economic education using the Jigsaw PSHE programme, which has wellbeing and mindfulness embedded throughout. Jigsaw supports children to:
- Recognise and manage their emotions
- Develop resilience and self‑esteem
- Build healthy relationships
- Practise mindfulness and reflection
These lessons give children the skills and language to talk about their feelings and cope with challenges in a positive way.
A Whole‑School Approach
Wellbeing is woven through daily school life, from classroom practice and assemblies to playground support and open communication with families. We work closely with parents and carers and encourage anyone with concerns about their child’s wellbeing to speak to a member of staff.
Together, we strive to ensure that every child at Sturton‑by‑Stow Primary School feels happy, confident and ready to learn.
