Welcome to Eagles Class!

Miss Elliott, Mrs Hand and Mrs Moulds would like to welcome you to the Eagles Class webpage.  Here you will find out about what the children in Eagles will be learning each term, along with any other important class information.

Autumn Term 1  - 5th September to 20th October 2017 (A Step Back in Time)

In English we will begin the term by developing our writing of non-chronological reports (information texts). We will link this to our history learning to produce a non-chronological report about Roman Lincoln. Following this we will spend a few weeks focusing on narrative writing. We will work on building characters and plots and improving narrative writing techniques whilst writing a story set in Roman Lincoln. Within the first few weeks of term the children will be tested on their Sturton Spellers lists, continuing from what they achieved last year.  The children will take part in Guided Reading sessions every week to build understanding of a range of texts. They will also complete independent reading and related activities.

This term we will begin with Number and Place Value. We will strengthen our understanding of what number is and how we can represent number. We will then work on addition and subtraction. As the children build on their number skills we will be applying those skills to develop reasoning and problem solving skills.  It is important that the children are building up their knowledge of multiplication facts and related division facts. The children should spend time at home learning this. In school, we do a weekly test as well as other activities to support multiplication.

This term we will be learning about light. We will think about what light is and what sources of light are around is. We will learn about light reflection and shadows.

Our History topic this term is The Romans, with particular focus on Roman Lincoln. The children will be completing a research project in school about the Romans in Lincoln and the Roman remains in the city. The Sturton History Society will be visiting school and will undertake workshops with the children which will assist them with their research project. The children will present their research at the Learning Celebration at the end of term.

Our Computing focus this term is Microsoft Publisher.  We will use this programme to present our Romans research. We will also be learning about e-safety.
